Audio Input not listed anymore

Dear Apple Community,

I cannot figure out why my external microphone (via audio jack) is not listed in the Input settings.

When I use the audio cable with my headphones (Bose QC I) the input device (External Headphones) is not listed in the sound menu, however when I activate bluetooth on my headphones then the microphone is listed and working.

Can you help me to use my headphones as an external input source when I connect them via audio cable?

Thanks!

MacBook Pro

My MBP 13" is from 2018. If an audio jack is present it is mostly common that it supports line-in - I never heard of a case where the audio module (hardware) is made in such a way that it does not support microphones.

I think I found the answer why a line-in does not show up:

My earphone jack has 2 pins (stereo), while a 3 pin audio jack would indicate that it also transfers the mic input.

Although I could have sworn that it used to work some months ago...
