When I got my phone this morning, there is only the battery symbol on the screen. There is no numerical pad on screen and touch ID is not functioning. There is no message on the screen(like disabled), no time, nothing but the battery symbol. What do I need to do to get back to my lock screen?

Try a forced restart. Hold down on the on the sleep button and the home button at the same time for about 10 seconds or so until the Apple logo appears on the screen. When you see the Apple logo, you can let go of the buttons.
