I have gathered some balance on my Apple ID and I would like to use it on the purchase of a new device. Is it possible to buy an iPad or iPhone with the Apple ID balance and only pay the difference with the credit card?
The balance on your Apple ID account can only be used in the App Store/iTunes.

You are welcome. There is nothing you can do to transfer the funds. I suggest you contact iTunes Support to see if they can/will help you make a transfer. Either use the form or scroll to the bottom of the page in the 2nd link. Follow through the screens to get a chat or telephone option. You may need to pick a problem that is slightly different than yours to get a chat option.
