iPhone Mail email intermittently truncated when replying or forwarding, so the email thread is missing

iOS 13.2.3 includes bug fixes and improvements for your iPhone. This update:

• Fixes an issue where system search and search within Mail, Files, and Notes might not work

• Addresses an issue where photos, links, and other attachments might not display in the Messages details view

• Fixes an issue that could prevent apps from downloading content in the background

• Resolves issues that may prevent Mail from fetching new messages, and fail to include and quote original message content in Exchange accounts

I have a workaround that has worked for me several times so far. Highlight all text in the email to be forwarded. Then select “copy.” Then forward the message. Now the body of the original message appears in the forwarded message. Note that I did not have to use the “paste” function in this process.

I found that it also works correctly if you:

• Go back to inbox
• Tap and hold the mail
• reply/fwd/etc.

Interestingly enough once you do this, it also works when you normally forward/reply (for the mail only).

I recently upgraded from iphone 7 which I also updated to ios 13 but does not seem to suffer from the issue, while the new iphone 11 pro I just bought does have it. I would say about 50% of my mails have the issue.

Apple confirmed 13.3 beta 2 has the fix for the truncated email issue.

As a work-around until resolved, before hitting forward, select all copy, then hit forward. No need to paste. Inline text will be in the forward.

I am also seeing this with myself and multiple users. You go to forward a message, but the recipient receives a blank email. One of my users reported that scrolling all the way to the bottom of the email, then forward the email alleviates the issue.. While this may be a temporary workaround, it is not very convenient. I hope Apple addresses this issue soon!

iOS13.3 public beta 2 has made improvements to these problems, but not resolved yet. Attachments are no longer truncated off a forwarded email. The body text appears to be truncated but when I check my Blackberry (as opposed to iPad) to see what was actually sent, the body of the forwarded email is there, thus the recipient isn’t receiving a truncated email even though it appears that way in iOS sent items. After about 5 minutes, the sent item corrects and shows the body of the forwarded email. Double emails in sent items fixed. Why is a complete fix so hard?

Still an issue for me. I’m on 13.3 (17C5046a) on an iPhone 7+.

For me, the previous email thread is missing when replying. It is also missing when forwarding if you choose not to “include attachments” (even when there are no attachments). If you forward and include attachments, it works.

I have no filter on my o365 setup. I use mimecast to do all my email filtering for the firm. the outlook app for Applce does not have this problem.

We can rule out o365 in this case.

A quick fix: Select all on received email then click reply or reply all which will include the entire email thread in your replying email

I have an observation, but am not able to test or confirm. Hoping someone here might be able to tell me if this is worth pursuing.

I reviewed one of the messages that was truncated in O365 and noticed that the original email had a message at the top that read "Attachments, pictures, and links in this message have been blocked because the sender isn't in your Safe Senders list. I trust content from xxxxx | Show blocked content"

I wonder if this error in O365 is causing an issue with the mail app in iOS where it truncates the message? Perhaps something has changed in O365 that is causing the mail app to not download the message before sending?

Thinking about turning off this filter in O365 (if possible).

I have experienced a big improvement as well, tho not 100%, via 13.2.3. No improvement in the “photo cannot load” problem as experienced by MANY, per another thread

Things seem to be working better with the 13.2.3 update, specifically with regard rob the truncated messages. Had an attachment embed itself though, so hoping that fix is still in the works.
