How can I connect my only available monitor, which has a 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz resolution to my Mac mini (through the HDMI port, HDMI to DVI-D adaptor). The monitor tells me that it cannot display the current setting mode of the computer.

I just bought a new Mac mini, and I want to connect its to the only monitor that I currently have. That monitor can display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz. My connection is via an HDMI (Mac mini) to DVI-D cable (monitor end). The monitor tells me that the signal from the Mac mini cannot be displayed and that the setting on the Mac mini must be changed, but I cannot change that setting on the mini because I don't have a working monitor! This is a catch 22.

I finally got an output from that Mac mini, using a Toshiba TV. I then updated the OS to Catalina, disconnected the TV, reconnected my DELL monitor and it started to work. Everything is now just fine.
