So, this is the seventh time I've tried to restore. I keep getting error 9. I've tried both usb ports and another cable. Now I am trying a new user account. What else can I do? I've already called Apple and don't have access to a store. I get 3/4 of the way through the firmware update and it gives me an error. Very frustrating.

Anyone have the same problem? Suggestions?

I am having exactly the same issue! It's really frustrating! The only thing people have suggested is to restart the iPhone and the laptop and try again, but nothing is working!! Can anyone help?

Wait a while. Servers are busy. I had to do two restores but finally got it done.

I'm posting from an iMac at the Maine Mall Apple store.

My iPhone 4 with the 4.0.1. Error Code 9 is out back right now... I'll post an update when I find out what the deal is.

I also believe it is server related, because the error log shows the firmware fail at a point where gs.apple.com is called regarding a "ticket"

I have the same error 9. It's a buzz in the store with iPhone 4 errors and the Press Conference tomorrow.

I get the same problem here, I've been through the loop about ten times. My iPhone 4 is currently a brick.

I am having the same error message and problems as others. Failing at "Restoring iPhone firmware."

I have been on the phone three different times with Apple:

-Try different cable and USB ports: Didn't work
-Asked for serial number of computer (PowerMac Quad core): Apparently USB on this computer is not compatible according to Apple
-Create new user and try a restore: Didn't work
-Try different computer (MacBook Pro): Didn't work
-Uninstall and Reinstall iTunes: Didn't work
-Last call to Apple and they told me it's possible that the servers are overloaded and to wait. This seems to mean that they actually have no idea what the problem is.

This is pretty pathetic. I'm trying to remain patient but must have a usable phone.

I'll be looking at this thread often.
