Upgrade to MacOS Catalina: Will non-iTunes music transfer over automatically?

Greetings all, I'm about to upgrade my non-work MacBook Pro to MacOS Catalina. Has anyone successfully made the upgrade and what happened to your non-Apple purchased music... you know all the CD's that you burned and MP3's from the 90's? Before I do this has anyone hit any speed bumps? Work arounds? Pit falls?

I had no problems at all with the conversion of my iTunes library over to Music.

When I did the update it erased all my music on both my iPhone and MacBook Air... but I’m not at all an expert on Apple by any means. I will say I like iTunes much better at this point..
