How do I find duplicate photos in iphoto

I have over 4000 pics in iphoto but some appear 3-4 times each in main library. How can I track duplicates and remove? Doesn't seem to be a simple solution like itunes.

Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Thanks Larry,

I'll give it a go. They appear in the main library window. Some are down as "preview" and have different info to what I believe to be the actual photo.

I also get a lot of icons in the main window appearing as photos e.g. graphic of microphone, star, timer etc. The type of things you use for settings on your camera.

Cheers.....Paul

Sound like you dropped an application of some sort onto the iPhoto icon or into the open iPhoto library window. Control-click on one of those icons and select Show File from the resulting menu. When you're taken to the file in a Finder window you can check to see what application it's in.

I ran a test one time with a test library and dropped the system folder into the open iPhoto window. Got some very interesting graphic images that the system uses.
