can this downloaded os update be found and removed?

I unchecked the "download new updates when available" too late, and now Catalina appears to have been downloaded to my computer and I'm already really tired of being asked daily if I',m ready to restart my computer and "finish" the install. I absolutely do not want this upgrade and I'm really nervous to think of it lurking onboard, waiting for me to make a mistake. Is it possible to remove whatever was actually downloaded? Where is it it and how to I go about removing these files?

Don't see it. The closest is the System Preferences app which is in the Applications folder but that doesn't have an uninstall option. It's an 8.9 GB file according to the System preferences pane. Poking around on the web it seemed like years ago people were asking this same question a lot when OSX first came out and there seemed to be paths to find the files they wanted to delete. This Catalina seems really hidden somewhere.
