Hi,
Welcome to the Discussions
Error 4 is fairly specific to Chatting with older iChat versions, namely Leopard.
This is not always the case.
Basically after you send the Invite and the Buddy gets the Pop up and accepts, iChat changes ports and sends An SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) invite.
The Error log is a record of that.
Error 4 means that iChat can tell that the other end has two connections to the Internet.
In Leopard, and therefore all version of iChat 4, if the Mac had Internet Sharing On, the Mac doing the sharing ichat could see the second Internet connection via the link to the other computer (or Wifi Able phone).
Network-wise iChat should be set up to have only one Internet Connection.
This means the Mac has only one IP.
Related to this.
If the Person uses Ethernet and Wifi to the same router then the Mac gets two IPs
These can be seen in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > TCP/IP tab on both the Ethernet and Airport items.
(Same if the Wifi is to a Neighbour's Network)
Also if their Modem routes (Issues IPs) these will get passed through a router.
The Mac still gets two IP although in this case can only display one.
Rarely does the Error 4 message refer to your end.
Basically your Buddy needs to sort his LAN Network out.
