I'm in the process of backing up my Macbook Pro to a 2 Terabyte external hard drive. It now says "encrypting...." 1.93 TB of 2 TB. Does this mean it is done?

The drive has apparently been set to encrypt the backup. That can take a while, depending on the speed of the drive.

If it says encrypting it is now finished. It is still encrypting the data that has been backed up.
I guess the best thing to do is keep it plugged in to let the encrypting finish. I want to upgrade my computer from El Capitan to Catalina. Can I do this while it is still encrypting?
Personally I would not do that if for no other reason that encryption take a large portion of the system resources.
