only half of my photos library is loading after updating to catalina

after updating to catalina, my photos library spent a few hours updating. It's about 200GB so that's not too surprising. Now when I try to view my photos, around half of the library shows as grey squares, no thumbnails or full size images. It is still "curating", but has shown zero change for 12 hours. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It's actually a mac mini 2014.

FYI this was fixed after a call to tech support. Answer was to replace "Photos Library" in the Pictures folder with one from most recent Time Machine backup, then launch Photos again. Photos then successfully updated.
