transferring photos from mac to new iphone

i got a new iphone yesterday and have been trying to transfer all my photos from my old one (now on my mac) and have been having trouble all day. how do i import them into my new phone?

you sync them using itunes Keep your photos safely stored and up to date on all of your devices - Apple Support
