SMS with Dual Sim, cannot start conversation on secondary number

My iPhone 11 Pro Max (13.1.3) has a physical sim for Primary.

I have just added an e-Sim as secondary.

When I start a new sms conversation and select "use secondary", it is sent from my primary number.

What am I doing wrong? or this an IOS 13.1.3 bug (not another LOL).

PS The situation corrects itself if the conversation receives an SMS to the secondary number, if that makes sense.

Dual SIM iPhone Cannot Send Texts without iMessage Enabled I wish to send SMS's but without using iMessage. I originally used a physical SIM card for personal calls, from my original provider, Optus. I now have a second phone number for work, with SIM, plan and number provided by Telstra. I only want to carry one phone for personal and work. I changed my physical SIM for an electronic SIM with my Personal provider. At this point, phone worked fine and would send SMS without iMessage. I then installed a physical SIM for my Work provider. After this, standard SMS's would not send. The screen simply failed to respond to the "Send" icon. Once iMessage was enabled, SMS's would send okay but I want to send texts without iMessage. What can I do? All other aspects of the dual SIM phone work fine. My phone is an iPhone 11. Can I please ask that any responder reads and understands the issue fully, before replying? iPhone 7+ Can Not Send SMS without SIM My iPhone 11 has enabled "Text Message Forwarding" to 5 devices: (2) Macs, (1) iPad, an iPhone SE and an iPhone 7+. Both iPhones lack SIMs. Both receive incoming phone calls when the 11 is near. All send and receive texts with others on iMessage. The Macs and iPad can send/receive SMS texts which are not iMessage. Today's problem is the SE and 7+ cannot send an SMS message the way the iPad can, yet they receive SMS. Comparing settings in General, Messages, and iCloud, I can't spot a difference between the iPhones and iPad. SMS is enabled but I don't have a SIM in the devices for it to use SMS directly. Disabling SMS makes no difference. And pretty sure last year the SE could send SMS to non-iMessage users, but not now. All iOS devices are 13.3. Reset of network settings (which rebooted the phone and lost WiFi settings but not Bluetooth) didn't change anything.

It seems many others experienced this issue with dual sim phones, even when it is used with only 1 sim.

One of the usual workarounds worked for me.

turn off iMessage

turn off Facetime

wait 2 minutes

turn them back on

now my phone works correctly :-)
