Screenshot area won’t go away!

After taking a screenshot, the area that was captured persists and the rest of the screen remains darkened. The feature used to work fine. Happened in Mojave and still happening with Catalina. Only fix i have found is restart. Anyone know how to resolve?

Start your mac and immediately press and hold the Shift key. Keep holding the key until the Apple logo appears.

Safe Mode is slow - that’s normal. The purpose of this test is to determine if there is a software conflict. Safe Mode does not load third party system modifications. It will also clear system caches, which may help too.

My guess is that in Safe Mode the problem will not occur.

Then restart normally and test again.

Try this and let us know.

Try to see if this also happens in the guest account. Go to System Preferences->Users & Groups, click the padlock to authenticate and turn guest account on.

Then login as guest and test. Same problem?

Login to your account, download and run the diagnostic tool Etrecheck and post its report here.

Restarting in Safe Mode produced the same result.

Created a new user account and logged in and the screen grab worked just fine.

My regular login items are:

Backup and sync with Google

Things Helper

Evernote web clipper

Honey

Will shut them off 1:1 and restart and see which one is the culprit! Thanks!
