Use iPad as external monitor?

I shoot video with a 7D which has HDMI out. I can purchase video monitors for viewing the video while I shoot to get proper focus and such, but I'm wondering of I can use the iPad as a monitor instead of buying a $1000 + monitor for this.

If you buy the camera kit you could probably playback the video off the camera.

Probably not. You can use the iPad as an external monitor for your Mac (seriously, you can using Air Display app, not sure why though), but I haven't read of anything to use as a monitor. I guess you could transfer the files to the Mac and visualize them there however.

You can use a Teradek Cube to wirelessly send the picture from a video camera to iPad or iPhone using the free Teradek app. look at www.teradek.com
