Why do I need to re buy Microsoft Office with the new OSI update?

When I downloaded the most recient update, Microsoft Office is no long accessable and I'm now required to re-purchase the license. Is this what we should expect?

If what you have it Office 2011 or older, yes. It's 32 bit software, and all apps in Catalina (and all other OS releases forward) must be 64 bit. Your choices are:

  1. Erase the drive and restore the backup you made before installing Catalina.
  2. Purchase a newer version of Office. Either the one-time cost, perpetual license Office 2019, or the subscription version Office 365.
  3. Use an Office alternative, such as OpenOffice or LibreOffice. Note that neither of these has a replacement for Outlook.
