Otterbox iPad case

I received my otter box commuter series iPad case today and was disappointed. The instructions were just pictures and I don't think I got the screen protector on right and I tried to take it off and put it back on the screen but it left a sticky residue on my iPad screen, does anyone know how to get this residue off without taking off the coating that Apple put on to resist fingerprints? Also, the rubber outer part of the case doesn't fit correctly around it tightly either. If anyone has any insight on how to go about correcting this I would appreciate it, especially how to get this sticky residue from my screen, that is bothering me the most. So far I am very disappointed in the otter box iPad case:(

One more thing. I would never put anything on the screen...PERIOD. I might consider a film that sticks by static electricity, but I would never use any other kind of screen protector. That's why I'm still liking the original Apple iPad case. It's sweet.

Thanks for the review. Glad I waited to hear about it. I'll have to see what a few others say before decided yes or no.

As for the sticky stuff, I would not use any solvents whatsoever. No alcohol, ammonia, etc. I'd go with a damp, not wet, cloth and try rubbing it off. Also, call the Otterbox people. Find out what they say about your situation. I'll bet they'll help out and make you a happy customer!

I've had my Otterbox Defender case for a few days now and it exceeds my expectations. I am an Industrial Designer and an emergency services instructor. The attention to detail, fit and finish on the Defender is amazing. The protection it provides is better than I expected. I have no fears of bringing my iPad out on the fireground as long as it isn't going to get soaked. I don't think a drop would do anything to the iPad.

I did not put on the screen protector as the Defender has a full cover for the display when not in use. I don't think it will be necessary, but it is easy to add if need be. One caveat, the cover for the screen rotation lock switch often inadvertently gets pulled open (it's attached to the rest of the cover) and requires some wiggling to fit back in to place. By no means a deal breaker for me.

I don't think you should have any worry about removing any residue left by the screen protector. The coating Apple applies should be extremely hard. Gentle rubbing with a soft cloth should get it off. You may want to try alcohol applied to a soft cloth. Again, alcohol should do nothing to the coating, just as it does not affect camera lens coatings or coatings on glasses. I regularly use alcohol on both of those and they are worth several times what my iPad is worth.

I actually ordered both the Comutter and the Defender case.

I was expecting I would like the Comutter case more because in the pictures it looks slimmer and sexier. But I was wrong.

The defender case is much higher quality and better built. And with the front snap on cover off the case and stored away somewhere else, it doesn't add much more weight or bulk than the comutter case. It was also much easier to install the defender case.

The comutter case looked a bit cheap, but the defender case is noticeably a very high quality case.

I received the Defender this morning. It was just what I expected from OtterBox. I'm pleased with it.

I can understand what the OP said about the screen protector, but I didn't have to worry about that as I have had a Power Support Anti-Glare on my iPad for several weeks. I prefer the anti-glare to the crystal because it really cuts the glare and I can use the iPad in a lot more places without worrying about relflections--such as in the car where the reflections could blind the driver.

I also like the fact that I can place it in the Dock w/o removing the case. Just slide the small cover off and the Dock fits perfectly.
