osCatalina Finder Sidebar

I upgraded to osCatalina and now can not view the sidebar in Finder. I went to Finder/View and the "Show sidebar" command is darkened, and I can not click on it.

Hello rcpv2019,

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities for help with your Finder Sidebar in macOS Catalina.

1. I recommend starting by checking Finder > Preferences > Sidebar. Go through and uncheck everything.

Then, restart your Mac. How to turn your Mac on or off - Apple Support

Log back in to your computer, and go back to Finder > Preferences > Sidebar and re-check everything. This article talks about the Finder Sidebar: Customize the Finder toolbar and sidebar on Mac - Apple Support

2. If the issue remains, please test if it is also occurring in safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support

If the issue is not occurring in safe mode, please check the troubleshooting and follow on article under the section: If an issue doesn't happen in safe mode.

3. Another possibility, please check Screen Time and that no parental restrictions were not inadvertently enabled on your computer. This article will help: Use Screen Time on your Mac - Apple Support

Check in System Preferences > Screen Time > Content & Privacy is off, or everything is enabled correctly. Thanks and have a wonderful day.
