I can bring up my iPad Pro 11 by using the power button and the top button together but I cannot shut it down using the same procedure. What am I doing wrong?

I haven't had success just using the power button on the iPad Pros I recently set up.
For some reason, what worked perfectly is press volume up once, then volume down, then press and hold power. The slider showed up then.

If those buttons are not working then you can shutdown iPad in Settings > General > Shut Down.
To shut it off, just use the power button.
How do I shut down my iPad Pro 11? I have tried using the power button and top volumn button but that only works to turn the iPad on.
