Can not add cell phone number to imessages

Can not add cell phone number to IMessage.

currently have email address attached to IMessage

iPad Air 2, iOS 12

Do you have an iPhone? If you don't, you can't use a mobile number for Messages on your iPad. d

If you have an iPhone, is it using the same Apple ID as your iPad? If it is and you're still not seeing your mobile number, try the following. Log out of iMessages on both devices. Log back in on your iPhone. Once iMessage is activated, log back in on your iPad.
