I have tried twice ti set up my gmail account with the built in mail program on my new iPad. It correctly displays the first 2 or 3 new messages from my inbox, but after that it skips a month or so at a time, so it only ends up displaying a handful of messages from each month or so. It is completely useless right now, and was wondering if there have been some common problems using the mail app with gmail accounts, or if it is just mine for the time being.
Additionally, the web based gmail works fine, and correctly displays all my messages,
Thanks for your help, the mail app is so great, it would be a shame if it didn't work with my gmail acct.
If you have it set up for push email using ActiveSync (configured as an Exchange server rather than as GMail) then the initial setup only pushes your unread messages. New messages get pushed normally and remain in your box until deleted or archived.
Thanks for the reply, but it is set up as a GMail acct, not exchange. Additionally, i have no unread messages on the gmail server, it just randomly only places a handful of messages in my Mail app inbox. It has done this 3 times now after repeatedly deleting and remaking the mail account.
One last note which may help, i tried setting the gmail account up manually as an imap account and it yielded the saw results. Is there some setting within gmail or the mail app that I'm not seeing? Because right now the application is completely unusable. Help would be appreciated.
Okay, so I think I've found my elusive missing messages... They're in the trash mailbox in the Mail app?!
I'm not sure why the messages that I've read online through the web based gmail client are being moved to the trash mailbox in my iPad? Does this make sense to anyone? And if it does, any help on how to fix it so that unread messages from my gmail inbox show up... In my inbox... Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Check the advanced settings under the Gmail account on your iPad. You have options there. I uses never delete and I think there are options of how long to keep read messages. From your description it appears that it is deleting (trash) read messages some time after being read.
