Cannot update iPad 2 to iOS 9.3.6

The iPad 2 GSM (AT&T 3G) is not affected by the GPS issue.

Only the CDMA model for Verizon is affected and requires the update. This is due to the different cellular hardware in each model.

iPad 2 Wi-Fi + Cellular (CDMA models only)

The model MC775LL/A is for a GSM 3G AT&T model.

Try updating via computer iTunes.

You do not have a cellular iPad so it's not eligible.

I have the CDMA version but canceled the cellular service long ago. I’m seeing the same inability to install. The install now working indicator spins for some time and then just stops. If you’re not using the CDMA capability (Only using the device on Wi-Fi) and don’t actually even have cellular service, would it still be necessary or even beneficial to have the update?

Not particularly. The update fixes a GPS accuracy issue. It does nothing in relation to cell service.

Its also not really vital to get it as it is with the iPhone 5.

You can choose not to update, and the iPad will continue to work fine, except for the GPS being a bit less accurate.

That is correct, the iPad 2 Cellular is affected by the GPS issue, but apparently not the GSM version, only the CDMA version. I guess that the GSM iPad 2 isn't affected, otherwise there would be 9.3.6 available. I would just wait and see, my guess is that your iPad will continue to work just fine.
