Fantastic!! sorted! works a treat, why didn't I think of that! I don't find MacBook at all easy to use having used windows for years without difficulty and a number of iPads too. This problem and many more I struggle to find a solution, could you recommend a book rather than the undownloadable books Apple make available online, so I can overcome such simple problems myself please. Many thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Have you tried selecting the item and sliding it to the left to see if you get a delete option? Select, then control - click/Delete?
your suggestion is what you would expect, but with no right/left click on Mac one click simply opens item to full screen, anymore thoughts?
Clarification question - are you holding down the control key when clicking on the item?
You are welcome. Unfortunately, my knowledge of good books for learning Apple is rather dated.
