Every day I listen to music on my iPhone through apple music which is synced through my iMac.
Ever since the Catalina update the play count is not updating when I sync my iPhone. Apple music on my iMac doesn't seem to recognise these plays at all and its rather annoying...

Same for me, since I've updated to Catalina 10.15.1 some days ago, while Mojave was fine.
iOS 13.2.2 updates the play counts correctly, because my smart playlist adds all new 5-Star tracks played at least once.
But Catalina's Music app doesn't update the play count via sync; only by playing it in MacOS.
Interesting is, that the same smart playlist, mentioned above, looks different.
I migrated my music library from Mojave iTunes to Catalina Music, which could be a reason.
But I don't want to reload all data from cloud, because some old tracks are incompatible for iCloud.
After playing around with different workarounds, like force closing apps or sign off from Apple Music, a reboot of my iPhone (XS) solved my issue. My iPad synced with the Mac, only the iPhone didn't. So luckily the hard reboot helped.
Am I the only one experiencing this?
Surely I'm not the only person with this issue?? PLEASE HELP!!
You've not alone. Seems that Apple periodically break stat syncing. I've long since given up on it.
