Why does Facetime give a "No network connection" message when I am connected to the wifi network (other apps work)?

When I try to make a facetime call on my iPhone I am met with a message saying "No network connection. Please allow FaceTime access to WLAN network." When I then click through "WLAN settings" there is no option to adjust Facetime settings.

iPhone 7, iOS 13

Hello BertieD,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you’re unable to make a FaceTime call because you can’t access network settings. I’d love to assist, and recommend that you follow each step in the below support article:

If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Particularly, if your network uses a firewall for security, it can block Internet traffic from working as expected. If this is the case for you, I believe the information below can help:

If you use FaceTime and iMessage behind a firewall

I hope this information is useful. Kind regards.
