How was my credit card information compromised from clicking on a link from Apple.com to order the latest ear buds ?

Got a email from Apple.com about the latest ear pods - decided to click on the link to Apple.com and purchase from my laptop on a home / secure network - that no one else has any access to . The purchase seemed like a secure purchase from apple.com - got a receipt from Apple.com . Two days later I find out someone used my apple ID & credit card information to purchase ONLINE a apple 11 pro ... the apple store called me and said the purchase was placed online using my account and credit card information. How does this happen? This is a major security issue with Apple.com website and all support could say is they will escalate the issue .

Hi Joytou62,

My guess and I could be wrong is that you received a phishing email that looked like it came from Apple to get access to your Apple ID and credit card information.

I would keep an eye on your credit card purchases or cancel your card and change your Apple ID password right away.

In the future when you received emails like this, make sure you go the vendors site directly, for example Apple.com and purchase this way. You can report emails like this that are fishy to reportphishing@apple.com.

Also, you can take a look at the article avoid phishing emails and make you have two factor authentication turned on for your Apple ID to protect it.

I hope this helps.

Hi - it was not a phishing scam or email - it was sent to me from this email address - news@insideapple.apple.com and the link took me to the apple.com website not a third party site at all - I am signed up for news from Apple directly. The email title was - AirPods Pro are here. I purchased the AirPod Pros using the secure site along with my APPLE ID and credit card "on file" no new information was requested at all that purchase came with a receipt from Apple everything 100% legit as usual. The following day - My apple account , and credit card on file was used to order online somewhere the iPhone 11 pro - fortunately - the Apple store called to confirm the purchase was available for pick up - all my information was correct EXCEPT - the phone number used for the purchase & I never got a receipt … I am very concerned that apple.com website compromised my user id , password and credit card on file - I have NO idea how this could have happened and no one is calling me from security to talk about it - they said "I may get an email once it is escalated "

Yes I have two factor ID - was in my home on private secured network - on computer I know and trust - all was secured on my end & just got my order from Apple - it was definitely the legitimate Apple website - I want to know how someone - somewhere - got access to my apple ID and account and was able to place an order through my account using my saved credit card information ….. This is very troubling APPLE …. if the Apple store had not contacted me I would not have known of the purchase on my account until I saw it on my credit card statement ….
