How can I mark my messages unread?

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities! I understand you have a question about Messages. I use messaging every day, and I definitely want to make sure you're able to use that without issue.

While there isn't an option to make a text or iMessage as unread, you can choose to remove the "read" notification on iMessages if you would like. You can turn that off for all conversations in Settings > Messages > Turn off "Send Read Receipts". You can also choose to only have that on or off for specific conversations. With an iMessage conversation open tap the name at the top > Info and you'll see the option to turn "Send Read Receipts" on or off.
