Reinstall Mojave

Command +R only gives me Maverick to install, not Mojave!

Hi Dungadin,

Thank you for posting your query on Apple Support Communities.

Could you please share the model and year of your Mac? Use the following articles if you are unsure: https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201634 https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201894 https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT202888 https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201300 https://support.apple.com/en-ie/HT201608

The Command + R key sometimes boots into the Recovery mode for the original version of macOS that came with your Mac. This seems to be the case with your machine.

Could you please try the following. It is an alternative approach to booting into the macOS recovery environment to reinstall macOS:

  1. Press the power button on your Mac
  2. As soon as you hear the startup chime, hold down the Option (⌥) key. After a few seconds you should see the Startup Manager.
  3. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, move to the macOS Recovery drive option and press enter.
  4. You should boot into Mojave recovery mode now.
  5. From this environment, click the option to reinstall macOS Mojave and following the on-screen prompts to reinstall.

If you cannot find the Mojave recovery partition in step 3 above, you may not have the Mojave recovery environment to reinstall Mojave. In this case, I would suggest reinstalling Mavericks, then downloading Mojave from the Mac App Store and installing from there.

Let me know if you're unsure of anything here. If you have any further queries, we'll be more than happy to help.

Kind regards,

Arash
