Silicone tips do not seal on Airpod Pro

None of the three silicone tips passes the leak test.

The largest one works occasionally on one ear. I believe I need a larger size.

Are extra large tips available? If not, are there other option?

My noise cancellation and bass response are marginal.

Thank you for any suggestions,

Larry

The Sony WF – 1000 XM3 noise canceling earbuds come with seven different size ear tips. I think Apple needs to add some additional (larger) tips to solve this problem.

Or perhaps, some third-party accessory maker will come up with a solution.

Same problem: the medium tips they came with 'sealed' only in the right ear according to the seal test. Replacing both tips with the larger ones solved this . . . for a little while, repeated the seal test after 3 days: Now that I have them for 2 weeks when running the seal test the right ear does not seal anymore. The issue is not the size of the tips. For many of us users which have a slightly deeper ear canal, all 3 included pairs of apple AirPods Pro's tips are not long enough to go deeper into the ear canal. Apple needs to include a pair of medium tips which are just a few mm longer to properly seal. My ears are not unusually shaped by any means, I am an audio professional and have different varieties of inEar Monitors from Etymotic, Shure, custom molded 64 Audio and all of them seal very well. They also include universal tips in small, medium and large sizes and both the medium and large sizes always fit me well. Due to bluetooth latency I have to use those above mentioned wired In Ear monitors on stage. I bought the AirPods Pro for convenience (loosing the cable:-) for listening to music I have to learn when moving around noisy environments. I also have Powerbeats Pro and 1st gen AirPods, but they don't seal. For now I have to go back to wired inEar Monitors until Apple comes out with a longer ear tip for the AirPods Pro. Their sound quality is pretty good for what they are, battery life is all right, no other complaint, they just don't make it through the seal test anymore. Hope apple reads this and makes longer tips for us.

I just came back from the Apple Genius Bar appointment and we've tried another set of large tips. They seem to work a little better keeping outside noise out when noise cancellation is active, but the 'ear tip fit test' still says no seal in both ears. Apple needs to come out with slightly longer tips in both medium and large sizes for us. Owning inEars from Shure, Etymotic, 64Ears and several other manufacturers and they all seal perfectly, so I know my ears are not 'unusual' (which the Apple Genius implied:-)

The issue isn’t the tips themselves. The ear tip fit test passes (with flying colors) originally, but eventually starts to fail consistently. Once they start failing, changing to brand new tips doesn’t help. I’ve now had this happen on four pairs of AirPod Pros. There is some hardware or software problem causing this. In each case, I still get the same seal, the same bass and the same ANC even after the test starts to fail. Apple needs to address this. Hopefully, it can be addressed with a firmware update.

There might be a bug in the ear tip test fit test, but in my case the tips are definitely too short (all 3 pairs) When pushing the AirPods in towards the ear canal they will seal providing a full sound and cancelling outside noise, when letting go they will still attempt to noise cancel, but there is NO seal for sure. I am a musician / audio pro and own several InEar Monitors, some of them custom molded to my ears and I know what a real seal feels and sounds like.

I’ve had the same problem on now three sets of air pod pros. They work for about 3 to 4 days. I don’t think it’s the tips though.., because the new AirPods always work for a few days, the. won’t seal anymore, I think there is something wrong with the sensor that measures the fit. My hypothesis is that “junk” ( oil, wax, dirt, etc...) builds up on the screen on the outside of the AirPod pros... and then the test starts to fail. It’s a bummer , because I like them... but I’m not going or keep them if they only pass the seal test for three days. I’m pretty disappointed, but I’ll be returning these ...again. And going to move on to the Sony 1000, noise canceling, which btw actually sound better, but are a little clunky looking, and don’t have the same IP rating, so heavy workouts won’t work..but I’m done and very disappointed Apple hasn’t or won’t take care of the root cause of their Apple AirPod pro failures. Btw .. they still sound pretty good and the noise cancelling works..they just won’t pass the test. I think Apple should get rid of the “clever” test.., and then we’d be happy with the sound.

Me as well. I’ve used silicone in-ear headphones for over a decade. The problem (or at least one problem - as usual this thread might be describing multiple issues) is that Apple is using its one size fits all mentality (or three sizes). If it doesn’t fit well with you, you must be defective, not their product. The simple work around would be for Apple or a third party to offer a much more diverse range of tips, especially ones that go deeper into the ear canal the way many, many other silicone tips do. How long that takes is a bigger story. Apple, please fix this. (And the Bluetooth connectivity issues on iPhone 11, but that’s another post topic...)
