Difference between sweat resistant and sweatproof of the AirPods Pro is not clear to me.

In this article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210711 a distinction is made between sweat resistance and sweatproof. It is stated that the AirPods Pro are sweat resistant but not sweatproof. From reading the article (including the notes) it is not clear to me what the difference is. Still no idea if it is save to use the AirPods Pro when you sweat heavy during runs of (say) 2 hours. (And I mean very heavy)

as a side note: I have a terrible history with so called “sport” buds. Apple exchanged my Powerbeats 3 maybe 5 times because they continually died on me. Same history with the Bluetooth “sport” buds of Urbanears. I know the Powerbeats 3 don’t have a IPX rating, but the fact that almost every pair died almost directly after 2 or 3 workouts makes me think that I sweat extremely much. (And I do)

The difference is very similar to the difference between water resistant and waterproof, but stricter. Sweat is, after all, a specialized kind of water.

In practical terms, AirPods are sweat resistant. They can tolerate some beads of sweat falling on them as you go through your day. They are not splash resistant, so showering with them is a no-no. And they are not water resistant, so don't go bobbing for apples.

As for your situation, I couldn't guess whether these AirPods can tolerate 5 days, 5 hours or 5 minutes of your workout. Are you a member of any sports society? I would recommend asking fellow members for advice.

It’s a subtle but important differentiation. As for now, also given the history I have with sport buds, I think I won’t use them for heavy or long workouts. I’m a sweat monster. For example my sport shirt is completely soaked after a short HIIT session, extensive interval training or a long run/ride in a challenging heart rate zone. I suspect that using my AirPods in these situations is like holding them under a tap.

Anyway, if there are people that have experiences with using the AirPods Pro and also sweat a lot (way more than an average person), please let me know.
