How do I upgrade MacOS from High Sierra to Catalina on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)?

FYI to all... On the forth try Catalina finally downloaded and I successfully installed it.

I have done these steps but Catalina does not download. It starts by displaying “downloading” and “calculating time” but ends with “download”.
