Apple Watch 3 Screen Explosion

Has anyone experienced a screen "explosion" especially while the phone is charging? I use the word explosion as I have no way to describe the damage caused while the phone was charging overnight. There were shards of glass all over the floor next to the table it was charging on, so I assume from that the glass was pushed outwards and with some degree of energy. Chunks of glass are missing leaving holes in the Watch, and cracks all over the screen, and the glass face is slightly lifting from the watch.

It's been sent to Apple and their analysis of the Watch cannot detemine what has caused it. However they are more than happy to take around USD200 from me to repair a Watch that has self-destructed.
