Can I transfer photos and imovie content from my ipad to my laptop (also a mac - Sierra) with a usb-c cable to a usb A connector

Can I transfer photos and imovie content from my ipad to my laptop without going through icloud or itunes? I'm connecting the two with a usb-c to usb-a cable. No icons appear on either screen indicating the connection is live.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.12

Hello,

You could use a USB external storage device. You would connect it to iPad and copy your iMovie files to it then connect the external storage device to your Macintosh to access the file.
