Why does Photos take up so much space?

My IPhone has been spamming me with messages about icloud being Full and reminders that i need to clean up my storage.

Photos is the thing that takes up almost all my storagespace, but if i delete Them from my IPhone, it doesnt release any space from icloud.

My IPhone has about 12 GB Photos and my icloud has 48 GB (!!)

Why does photos take up so much space on icloud when i dont have Them on my phone? And where Can i find/delete Them from icloud?

I see from your post that you're trying to reduce the amount of space that your photos are taking up in iCloud.

Take a look at the "Photos and videos" section of the Apple Support article, Manage your iCloud storage and follow the steps provided in iCloud to reduce the amount of space being used in Photos.
