iTunes Error 11556 when trying to sync my library

I am unable to use Apple Music on my Mac so I googled some fixes and found out you had to turn on sync in iTunes. Whenever I click sync and OK it says "Unknown Error, Could not sync (11556)" or something along those terms. How do I fix this?

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

Hello caspardavid and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I see you have a question about an error message you get when trying to enable the Sync Library option in the Music app on a Mac.

Use Music > Preferences > Advanced and choose the option to reset the Music Store cache. Then try re-launching the Music app and enabling Sync Library again.

If this is not effective, reach out to Apple Support.

Quick Update on how I finally solved the problem:

I did all of the following but this time one after another WITHOUT REOPENING THE PROGRAM:

  • Downgrading iTunes then reupgrading
  • Deleting all iTunes files found in Finder > Music
  • Resetting all settings and deleting all files (including cache)

Then, I copied an empty iTunes library onto a hard drive and held the option key down when launching Music. When it asked me to choose a library, I chose the empty one and everything worked fine immediately. I now have to launch the app with my harddrive connected, so it isn't a complete fix, but at least Apple Music works now. I will try launching through a local copy of the library in the future, but right now I don't want any more trouble.

Cheers,

Leon

Hi Allen,

thank you for your response.

This suggestion was already in the range of fixes that I found on the internet and that didn't work for me. I obviously restarted my Mac after every fix I found.

Some other fixes that didn't work:

  • Downgrading iTunes then reupgrading
  • Deleting all iTunes files found in Finder > Music
  • Resetting all settings and deleting all files

Apparently, my MacBook Pro (2017) isn't eligible for free support anymore which is why I am posting here. Big shoutout to Apple by the way for cutting off support for a product that is still being sold right now with minimal changes - next time I'll take the selling point "customer service" more seriously.

Cheers,

Leon
