Help command terminal

Hello to all. I need an information. I installed the Catalina version. When I use the terminal to install in the application it does not recognize the "apt-get" command. Why? Perhaps because changing the shell in zsh has also changed the syntax of the command? I look forward and thank you. 🙂

APT is an installer and commands from Ubuntu, Debian, and a few other Linux distributions, and not macOS.

macOS uses the XNU kernel and is loosely based on BSD UNIX and Mach, and is in a different family from Linux.

Which app are you installing when you’re trying to use apt-get to acquire it?

One equivalent to APT on macOS is homebrew, and there are others.

Homebrew may or may not have the particular app you’re looking for.

I’d probably download and use the existing (official) VLC installer for macOS, but yes, it’s possible to download and build VLC from source manually using homebrew.

The former—using the existing VLC installation kit—is the most common approach, and also means you’ll be better able to get help from the VLC folks if something goes weird with your VLC install.

And the command is brew and not homebrew, and some setup is required.

Inferring much (and possibly incorrectly) from your postings here and with no offense intended, you’re seemingly headed for a more complex and more difficult approach with the command line and the from-source builds, and you’re also seemingly not reading or not understanding the provided links around (for instance) installing and using homebrew. Which in aggregate may make using homebrew and from-source builds and the command line a more frustrating approach.
