i never had a problem with my 1st gen AirPods connecting to my watch. The AirPods Pro won’t connect to it. I have the GPS+cellular so I can listen to music while walking, running, etc and not have to keep my phone on me. Why does something that costs $100 more NOT work as well as the old ones?

It IS very irritating! My 1st gen AirPods transitioned seamlessly between my phone and watch. The Pros still don’t, and they won’t reset. I have to make sure my phone is locked if I want them to 50% of the time connect to my watch. I’m going to break down & go to the store I guess.
