There is only one way to reset a forgotten iPhone or iPad screen lock passcode - you must erase the device.

Assuming it is not disabled, is plugged in and connected to wifi, and you use find my iphone on the device, then you can execute a remote erase from any web browser and www.icloud.com.

Otherwise the only option is to restore the device as new in iTunes to erase it and remove the forgotten passcode.

That is a deliberate design feature of iOS and iPadOS - without knowing the passcode, the only way to regain access to the device is to erase it. That way, nobody, no one at all, can gain access to a device’s data without knowing the passcode.
