How to use Face ID on iPhone in landscape

my Car phone holder is landscape oriented. While driving, I want to just glance at the phone to unlock it so I can pull up maps, phone, etc.

right now, I need to watch traffic, disconnect the phone, hold it in portrait mode, glance at it, then reverse the process so I can be hands free again.

Any way to get my iPhone to work in landscape mode?

I don't believe so. The technology to allow Face ID is dependent on the front facing camera.

Rotating the device would mean significant changes to how this works for the few times when landscape Face ID would be relevant.
