Unable to use loaded Apple ID cash. It’s asking for a redeem code?

I added money to my Apple ID directly from by bank account using a debit card. I attempted to pay for an in-app purchase using the money I added to my Apple ID, but it’s asking me for a redeem code. I never had a physical card and this isn’t a virtual gift card. I just digitally transferred money to my Apple ID to use for purchases. How do I use my money without a redeem code or how do I get a redeem code in this scenario???
