Functionally, there are no problems, but I would like to be able to glance at the Caps Lock key Light to know the lock is on or off. Is this problem widespread. Do I need to have the keyboard replaced?

You could take the keyboard to an Apple store or official reseller and have them test or check it;

depending on the distances involved. If the keyboard checks out, then the computer needs to be

inspected and likely replaced under warranty should the defect be in one of its ports.

Some items on the logic board may be affected by use of SMC reset instructions. These have more

than one thing to try & do and vary across certain hardware designs. Otherwise you have warranty.

I decided to check the battery level of charge in the new rechargeable keyboard. It was 70%. I used the lightning to USB connecter and charged the keyboard. After 5 minutes I was pleasantly surprised to see the cals lock light come on when I pushed the key. I removed the lightning to USB cable and all has been functioning perfectly since. The solution was simply a slight recharge of the brand new iMac keyboard rechargeable battery.
