Upconverting HD to AppleProRes 444

So people have asked me if there is a difference from something shot on 444, to up-converting in post with FCP 7.

I don't know the answer.

I have heard that there is a loss in media resolution but know one knows how much.

Is there a way to measure this?

Is there an actual decrease like 10%?
