Touch Bar disappeared

Hi,

my Touch Bar completely disappeared and I'm not sure why. I want to know how to restore it without having to do a factory reset. I've tried restarting my computer but it's still gone. The option to have the Touch Bar displayed in the System Preferences under Keyboard has disappeared as well. I've tried pKill TouchBarAgent, pKill Control Strip, as well as sudo pKill TouchBarServer. It will let me type in my password after putting in the pKill TouchBarServer command, but nothing happens after I hit the return key. Could it have something to do with recently updating to macOS Catalina? I've seen this question before but never found out if the issue was resolved.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. I understand the Touch Bar on your MacBook Pro is not displaying. I'll do what I can to help.

Here are some suggestions:

Reset the SMC that puts power to the Touch Bar: How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac
Just in case it's related to settings required by the Touch Bar, also be sure to reset the NVRAM/PRAM: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac
To narrow it down, also be sure to check your Mac in safe mode: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac You can also try a new user as well: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac
- If it only happens in your user and not in safe mode, try removing login items that might control the Touch Bar: Open items automatically when you log in on Mac
- If it happens in both safe mode and a new user, back up your Mac and reinstall macOS using Recovery which will reinstall required information for the Touch Bar: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery
