Trying to watch Apple TV on my Roku but now it is saying that I need iTunes credit or something. I am trying to watch a free show.

New to Apple TV + app and right now impressed because after creating my user name I went to my Roku to input the user name and password to enter in to watch a show that I thought that was free it was saying that I need iTunes card or credit. So my question is do I need to buy an iTunes gift card to watch free shows and movies on the TV app?

What were you trying to watch? Apple TV+ (note the plus) content requires a subscription. Even the free trial period requires a credit card or an account balance covering one-period of the subscription.

An Apple ID needs a payment method, which includes the possibility of ‘None’ (no card). Account balance is always used before other methods, if available. Payment methods that you can use with your Apple ID - Apple Support
