How to search and replace carriage returns and tabs in Pages (version 8, 2019)

Solution:

This is pretty simple, but it was hard to find so here goes:

In the find or replace window you can use \n to find a carriage return (because \n = new line) or \t for a tab. It gets a little confused if you search for a single return and replace with a double return, but thankfully not the other way around. Hope this helps!

We have covered the known codes that I am aware. However…

You can search for, and replace any Unicode character that you can directly input into the Find and/or replace field. You do so with the Keyboard Input Source named Unicode Hex Input, which you can add [+] in that Keyboard Preferences panel. Ensure that √ Show input menu in menu bar is selected on that panel, and you will have this Unicode Hex Input capability from ⌘-Spacebar selector, or directly from the menus extra Input menu.

With the Unicode Hex Input source selected, you simply hold the option key, and then directly enter the Unicode character. For the soft return, hold option and enter 2028.
