deletions of emails across devices

Is there a way to delete emails from my iPad Pro and have the deletion propagate to my iPhone, as well? This function used to work for me—now it works in one direction only: from my iPhone to my iPad Pro. What setting(s) do I need to change (on my iPad Pro?) to re-instate this two-way feature, please? Thanks! :)

Apple Music shouldn't affect email sync, although email sync requires that the devices have an Internet connection at the time you delete or move messages, because if you don't the server won't "know" about the change. So if music streaming was using too much of very limited bandwidth it might affect mail sync, although it would have to be a very slow connection as mail uses very little bandwidth.

You might try deleting the accounts with the problem, restarting the phone and adding the accounts back. As they are IMAP you won't lose any mail, it may just take a while to resync. And this will clear out any corrupt settings in the mail accounts.

The email accounts need to be set up as IMAP accounts on all devices. IMAP propagates all changes to the mail server, which then pushes them to all other devices connected to the same mail server. The following accounts default to IMAP:

  • iCloud/MAC mail
  • gmail
  • MSN mail
  • Yahoo mail
  • AOL mail
  • Microsoft Exchange mail (it isn't actually IMAP, it's Microsoft's proprietary ActiveSync, but it works the same way)

Most other email providers will support IMAP, but it may not be a default

Thanks Lawrence... Yes, both of my devices are set up on IMAP accounts (supported by my email provider), but still no joy. (As I mentioned above, both devices worked in sync before—probably as recently as a month ago.) The only thing that (I believe) I have changed is that I updated my iPadOS / iOS recently. Since I cannot exactly pinpoint when my mail “cross-syncing” status changed, I cannot discern whether the update might have effected a change. :(

I was just reminded that my husband signed us up for Apple Music sharing. ...anything I might have missed there? As always, thanks for your input.
