Safari works after reboot, but eventually Safari stops loading web pages.

Firefox works fine so I know its not my home network or DNS. I have tried removing all the plug ins, extensions, cleared the history and emptyed the cache. I have also run anti-virus scans and reinstalled Catalina. I am out of options. Any further suggestions?

Go step by step and test.

  1. Restart your Router.

Start up in Safe Mode. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

      Launch Safari and test.

Restart normally by clicking the “Restart” button at the bottom.

   2. Launch Safari holding the shift key down and test.

   3.Check for adware.

Run  the latest release of Malwarebytes for Mac to remove malware/adware, if installed on your Mac.

For instructions:  Install Malwarebytes for Mac          Uninstall Malwarebytes for Mac

Click the “Scan Now” button. Once done, quit Malwarebytes for Mac.

Restart the computer and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

4. Deselect Proxies, if selected.

System Preference > Network > Advanced  > Proxies Tab

Unlock the lock if you have to.

Under "Select Protocol", uncheck any box if checkmarked.

    Click "OK”, then  "Apply”.

  5. If the steps posted above don’t help:

Download EtreCheck: https://etrecheck.com/maspro  and post the report here.

Click, “Free Download” button and then  “Click to download” button.

Open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.

Click on the bouncing  EtreCheck icon in the Dock.

“Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.

Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar, select “Copy report” .

I would uninstall Avast. It tends to interfere with the computer's operation while providing minimal to no benefit unless you work with Windows files. Most long time posters recommend not using antivirus software or cleaning software such as CleanMyMac.

Avast

Avast Un-install

Most posters recommend not using cleaning programs. They can destroy normal computer operations.

CleanMyMac Uninstall

CleanMyMac 2 uninstall

CleanMyMac3 Uninstall

Check for any remaining associated files using these programs.

EtreCheck is a system testing software that reports a system snapshot detailing presence of adware/malware software.

This tool is developed by EtreSoft, a member of this community to help us.

You don't have to install it, just download it to Downloads folder and run it from there.

Malwarebytes for Mac and EtreCheck are two tools I use and recommend.

Safari works after reboot, but eventually Safari stops loading web pages.
