Loose Lightning Connector - iPhone 7 Plus

When I connect the lightning cable to the phone it will charge and then I

have to carefully set it down and leave it untouched. If I receive a

phone call or message the phone will vibrate and the cord comes out and

stops charging.

The previous "positive engagement" feedback from the connector to cable interface - is gone baby gone....other than returning it to Apple for a pricey remove and replace of the connector, any suggestions? Thanks to all..

Get a flashlight and inspect the Lightning connector on the iPhone. Use a toothpick and clean out any lint/dust/debris that you find and also inspect the pins to ensure they are not bent.

Have you tried a different cable with this phone?

Hello optomist1,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to charge your iPhone as expected, as you have an issue with the Lightning port. To help with this, please test with different cables and check for any debris from the charging port on the bottom of your iPhone and other steps in this Apple resource on charging issues, and then contact Apple for further assistance.

Have you tried a different cable? It could be wear on the connecting head. Or perhaps dust/dirt on the head or perhaps in the port that's keeping the leaf springs from properly clipping into the notches on the head.

Just last week I had a MFi Lightning cable where it would intermittently connect. It would connect properly if I just pressed lightly against the connector it would connect consistently, but otherwise it would kind of intermittently work. Not sure what the problem was (and I can't even figure out what the mechanism for this failure was) but when I switched to another cable it worked consistently.

Other than that, I'm not sure what can be done. I know that internally the Lightning port comes as a single part that could theoretically be replaced but some here claim that Apple only "repairs" a loose Lightning port as a complete device replacement.
