My bad. There are installation instructions that appear after the download. In the past I just ran the installer and it showed up. You have to go into Printers and Scanners and follow the instructions pasted below, current as of 11-18-19.
For USB Users:
- Connect the USB cable into your machine and your Macintosh. Ensure that the machine is powered on.
- Note:
- Do not connect the machine to a USB port on a keyboard or a non-powered USB hub.
- The printer driver will be installed automatically.
- You need to make sure if the installation of the printer driver is complete.
- Select "System Preferences" from the Apple Menu.
- Click the "Printers & Scanners (Print & Scan)" icon.
Case 1: CUPS Driver (Recommended)
- Check if your Brother machine is displayed in the "Printers" section.
- If your Brother machine is displayed, the setup is now complete.
- If your Brother machine is not displayed, try to disconnect and connect the USB interface cable to your Macintosh again. And then repeat the steps 4 - 6 to check if the installation of the printer driver is complete.
Case 2: BR-Script Driver
- Click the "+" button which is located below the "Printers" section.
